Sanguinaria canadensis

This early spring wildflower gets its name from a red blood-like fluid within the roots. You can put it on your face to play indians.

Malacosoma americanum

This early spring caterpillar communicates to cohorts by releasing chemical pheromones. It is a pre-social insect.

Brown creepers build tiny nests behind bark scales, and feed on trees similar to woodpeckers.
